Our list of what to put in your medical kit is
divided into stuff to bring from home and stuff that is easily available in
Thailand.
Stuff From Home
- Prescription Medications - most prescription meds are available over the counter in Thailand, not all are -
especially new medications. Make sure you have the generic name of the med written down
somewhere.
- Cortisone Ointment - can be a bit difficult to find. It is very useful for insect bites and other itchy problems.
- Excedrin - regular aspirin is easy to find, the type with caffeine, such as Excedrin, is not available.
- Rolaids - if you have a problem with heartburn, you can buy
something called Antacil in Thailand, but it is very chalky. Bring your
favorite antacid from home.
- Eyeglasses prescription - eye exams are cheap in Thailand, but if you are in a rush, you can often get the lenses made more quickly
What You Can Get In Thailand
-
Aspirin, sunscreen, mosquito repellant, plasters
("Band-Aids"), cotton swabs
- Antibiotic ointment (for skin infections), anti-fungal ointment
- Tweezers (a Swiss army knife takes care of pretty much everything)
- Imodium (for diarrhea)
- Extra pair of eyeglasses
- Anti-malarials - sometimes asking a medical professional in the country where malaria may be endemic is better
