Thailand Packing Details

Some details, issues, recommendations, suggestions and caveats to consider for packing for an international trip.

Luggage selection is important

  • Wheels - if your luggage will mostly be seeing airports, taxis and hotels, think wheels
  • Tethers & straps - don't steer well and tip easily.
  • Handles & frames - taller people .. make sure it is long enough so you can walk upright without the bag hitting your heels as you walk.
  • Uneven sidewalks & cobblestones - think shoulder straps or back packs.
  • Garment bags - fast easy flexible for the short haul or carryon.
  • Duffles - flexible, expandable, light weight.
  • Backpacks - for lots of walking with your baggage.
  • ©Ziploc bags - are great for organizing & waterproofing.
  • Plastic garbage bags - make good dirty laundry bags.

What & How to pack

Apparel
  • Clothing - travel light. Take half of what you think you need.
  • Coordinate - colors to reduce inventory
  • Fabrics - natural fabrics for normal travel. Mostly cottons and woolens for the cool season in the north.
  • Shoes - one pair "dressy", one casual.
  • Undergarments - 3-4 day supply
  • Comfortable - one set for relax-wear
  • Hat - too much sun is painful and dangerous - buying in Thailand is okay.
Toiletries
  • Carry limited & small sizes - razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, small soap, cologne, chap stick, sub block, eye care, nail care, hair care. Most can be replenished in Thailand
  • Buy on arrival - (helps break you in to Thailand) soap, tissues, extra clothing.
Miscellaneous
  • Journal - memories are priceless
  • ©Ziploc bags - large size ... handy, handy, handy.
  • Pen - always handy
  • Flashlight - small, focus beam
Forgetless kit - a fanny pack, neck wallet, money belt or whatever is comfortable for you. Make sure it is secure.

Try it long enough to get so accustomed to it you "feel" when it is not with you.

Use it for your tickets, passport, cash, credit and ATM cards, etc.
