Thailand has a wide variety of cycling activities for all levels and all ages.
Renting
From mountain bikes and racing bikes to comfortable, practical, Thai style bikes, you will find them all. They can be rented at very reasonable prices. An ordinary Thai style bike rents for about 1-2 dollars a day. A nice mountain or racing bike rents for 10 -
15 dollars a day.
Even if you aren't an avid cyclist, renting a bike can be handy at places like the temples in Sukhothai or the Ancient City outside of Bangkok.
Bringing Your Own Bike
You can even bring your own bike from home. Note that you must take it out with you when you leave or you will be subject to a hefty customs fee. In addition, if you bring your own bike, check it over thoroughly before you leave and bring as many spare parts as possible. Some things aren't available here and parts can be expensive.
Bicycle Tours
Many travel agents can help you arrange a bicycle tour. With most tours, a bike, food and accommodations are provided. Many more freelance style tours can be found on the Internet.
Taking a bike on a bus or train is no problem and is fairly cheap.
Caution: Driving anything in Thailand, including bicycles, can be dangerous. Be particularly alert to motorcycles and cars coming VERY close to you on BOTH sides as they pass. You may want to check out driving in Thailand for more tips and cautions.
