Pattaya Baht Bus & Motorcycle TaxisBaht buses (Songtaews)These are the most popular means of transportation for tourists. The "buses" are converted pick-up trucks with two benches in the rear. In Pattaya they are dark blue in color and all display a three digit licensed number on the vehicle. The baht buses have some common routes and are simply hailed from the roadside to be boarded from the rear. The fixed fare around town is Bt. 10 for non-Thais and is payable on dismounting the vehicle. Longer journeys e.g. to Jomtien are Bt. 20. If you require a particular destination then negotiate the fare with the driver in advance. The city has been experimenting with a free shuttle bus in the central district. This travels south contra to the traffic flow along Second Road. Some research is required if you intend to try and use this service. Motorcycle TaxisThese are small step-through motorcycles and as a passenger you simply ride pillion. A safety helmet is a legal necessity (driver provides) and the journeys are certainly the quickest around town for the younger, more agile and less faint-hearted tourist. Again, declare your destination to the driver and agree a price. TaxisThese are non-existent in Pattaya, the ones seen on the street are Bangkok based and do not ply their trade in Pattaya. You may see Bangkok Taxis cruising the interprovincal bus station in Pattaya while looking for return fares to Bangkok. Rental Vehicles in PattayaCars, motorcycles, scooters and cycle rental are all possible from most hotels, Beach Road and many other places. Prudence is required when selecting a rental agency with regard to insurance cover and documentation to be provided. |
