Krabi is located approximately 800 km to the south
of Bangkok on the west coast of Thailand, but on the Eastern side
of Phang-Na Bay. It is home to over 100
islands and islets all rising from the soft, cool water of the Andaman
Sea.
By road, Krabi is located less than two hours from the Paradise
Island of Phuket.
It is bordered by the provinces of Trang, Surat Thani, Phang Nga and
the Andaman Sea.
Krabi province is divided into 8 Amphurs (or districts)
and 51
Tambons (or sub-districts).
Krabi is
actually a province as well as a functional town. Within the province, there is
everything needed for a relaxing and peaceful holiday as well as everything you
might want to keep you active and excited about being in a small corner of
paradise.
The season here runs from mid-October to around Easter time for the
western tourists with many Thai families visiting through to the middle
of May.
In the town of Krabi, there are a selection of shops and markets, as you would expect from any
town, along with a cinema and many guesthouses, restaurants, bars and karaoke
bars.
Most tourists visiting here will at least take time for the boat journey
to see Khao Kanab Nam, two small hills rising 100 metres out of the Krabi River
and surrounded by mangrove forest and sprinkled with caves.
The major centres for activities and accommodations are Ao Nang, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta.
Once you have
settled on a place to stay, there is a multitude of activities and famous
sites.
If you enjoy the water, then there are many dive centres, many islands
with shallow, coral filled bays ideal for swimming and snorkelling, many
longtail boats for cruising around the islands.
There is Railay Bay, with some of the best rock climbing in the world,
the Tiger Cave Temple, hot springs, elephant trekking and, of course,
the beaches.
