Chiang Mai Safety

F.A.Q. Miscellaneous Health See & Do Bangkok North Koh Samui Pattaya Krabi
Thai people, particularly in the north, are relaxed, easy going and friendly. They don't suffer from the kind of social paranoia that permeates western society.

They are not quick to get angry either. However, they are human and so can be offended. Things to keep in mind
  • Don't walk around filming people while they go about their daily business
  • Don't walk around with no shirt or wearing a bikini
  • Try not to raise your voice when feeling frustrated. Getting angry is considered the height of bad manners in north Thailand
  • Don't make a disrespectful comment about the the royal family
  • Don't touch anyone's head
  • Don't take it for granted that cars and motorbikes will stop at pedestrian crossings

Note: If you come from a country where vehicles drive on the right. Be especially careful. Looking the wrong way for traffic before stepping off the curb is common and very dangerous
