Songtaews , commonly called "Baht buses", are pickup trucks equipped with canopies and two seats running the length of the bed. Fares vary with the zone, Basic fare around beach road is Bt 5. Bt 10 to Naklua and Bt 30 to Jomtien.

If you ask the driver to take you directly to a destination, the songtaew becomes a taxi and the fare is subject to negotiation. Always negotiate before boarding as unnegotiated fares can be quite creative.

Motorcycle taxis are another form of direct transport. To avoid problems, Negotiate the fare in advance, from about Bt 20 and upwards.
