In case you didn't know, a microlight is a motorized
airplane that looks like a hang glider. It has a driver at the front
and a trembling passenger behind. A two-person mini airplane if you
like.
For all those who aren't scared of heights then this is probably the most spectacular way to take in Chiang Mai's impressive geography.
The lack of a plane-like shell gives the rider a feeling of complete freedom - it really feels like you're up there with the clouds.
Chiang Mai Sky Adventure is the name of the operator and they have been doing microlight tours for over 7 years now. They use an Australian made machine and have an impeccable safety record.
However, before getting airborne you will have to sign a disclaimer, which basically means if something does go wrong it isn't their fault. Sounds ominous but it's just a formality.
The plane reaches a maximum altitude of 1000 feet and the view you get is quite simply fantastic. If only Chiang Mai still looked that nice at ground level.
Your journey is approximatly20 kilometers and it takes
around 20
minutes. Longer trips can also be arranged.
People who have done it say it's well worth it.
