Most of the structures are half-scale, but that does not diminish their appeal. The Dusit Palace is just as magnificent as the full-sized real thing.
The historical park is excellent for families and groups. Multi lingual panels at each location explainin the settings. A printed guidebook with beautiful color photos and more detailed descriptions is a bargain at Bt 300.
Some statuary and structures are mythological, but are still important parts of Thailand's culture. Examples are the hunter capturing the kinaree and the "Center of the Universe".
Expect to see rural villages, famous chedis, beautiful temples, elegant salas, royal barges and well-presented statues. You will find enough space to picnic beside a serene lake, contemplate;late the elegance of a lotus pond or a bell tower; or to simply site and enjoy the surroundings
Visitors can see the park on foot, bicycle, electric golf cart or private car. But be warned, this place is big. Bicycles, at a minimum, are strongly recommended. Guides are available as well, but unless you are directionally challenged, you really don't need one, especially with a guidebook.
Muang Boran is a day trip from Bangkok. Get there early and stay until it closes. Weekdays will be less crowded, but even on weekends you won't be rubbing shoulders with other visitors. But you will be challenged to appreciate the entire city in just one day. Consider a second day to finish up the Ancient City and to stop by the Three-Headed Erawan Elephant, which is nearby.
A number of rest stops with refreshments are spotted around the park. Good and inexpensive food service is available at the food center. Most dishes are Bt 50 - Bt 60 and a large bottle of Singha Beer is Bt 70.
Getting There
Car or Taxi - Expressway to Sasmrong-Samut Prakan exit, then to the Samut Prakan Intersection. Turn left along old Sukhumvit Road (toward Bangpoo) to km 33. Muang Boran is on the left.
Bus - Take air-con bus 511 from the Southern Bus Terminal - Paknam to the end of the line; then get mini-bus 36 which passes the entrance.
Skytrain & Taxi - Take the skytrain to the On-nut station, then take a taxi to the Ancient City
